Coweta Schools didn’t “do the math”
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports:
“Despite an estimated $3 million shortfall in the Coweta County school system’s budget, county Board of Education members declined to raise property tax rates last week. Without discussion, the board set the property tax rate — also known as the millage — at the same level as last year: $18.59 per $1,000 of assessed value.”
As you know, when elected officials adopt a millage rate that is the same as the previous year, it is a clear indication that they did not “do the math.” It is nearly mathematically impossible for a properly calculated rate to stay the same from year to year. It appears that the Coweta School Board will under-tax this year, instead preferring to draw on cash reserves.
