Bryan County
Summary: Bryan County will operate on a 2005 budget of $11,838,645.
Of that amount, $5,907,484* will be funded by property tax dollars. The County
Commission will adopt a millage rate of 7.631, the same rate as last
year.
The mathematically-correct
millage rate is 7.491.
The arbitrarily high rate
proposed by the Commission will overtax Bryan County property owners by at least
$110,700 more than is
necessary to fully fund this year's budget.
The owner of a $150,000** home in
Bryan County will pay $457.86 in county property taxes, about $8.40 higher than what
would be required with a mathematically-correct millage rate.
