Thomas County

The Thomas County Commission adopted two millage rates-- one for unincorporated Thomas County and one for properties within the county's cities-- to partially fund its $16,119,200 budget this year. The portion of the budget to be funded by property tax dollars is $5,839,000.

Based on a Net Tax Digest of $1,051,743,059 and because certain data could not be provided by the county, it is necessary to compare the average of the adopted millage rates to a county-wide mathematical millage.

The Commission adopted an average rate of 5.590 for both incorporated and unincorporated properties; however, the mathematical millage is slightly lower, at 5.552.

The total revenue expected to be generated by both millage rates is $5,879,769, $40,770 more than the budget requires.

The actual dollar difference is less than 3/10th of one percent which is, in our opinion, negligible. In other words, although the adopted millage rates are, mathematically speaking, probably wrong... in total, they are close.
