City of Duluth

Summary: This western Gwinnett city budgeted for $4,197,495 in property tax dollars to fund its $11.23 million 2005 budget. However, the City Council adopted a millage rate of 5.191, the same rate that the city has adopted for the past four tax years.

The arbitrarily-inflated and mathematically incorrect rate is expected to bring in at least $802,967 more than is necessary to fully fund this year's budget.

The mathematically-calculated millage rate is 4.357

The owner of a $150,000* home in Duluth will pay $311.46 in city property taxes (not considering exemptions), $50.01 more than his/her fair share to fund the cost of city government this year.
